Modernism Week Kicks Off in Palm Springs
The 10 day annual celebration of design and architecture, called Modernism Week, has started with a bang on Thursday in Palm Springs. This grand festival comprises 250 big and small events that will unfold during these celebrations. While the residents of Palm Springs will come across double-decker bus tours and musical cocktail parties at night, Modernism Week is much more than this with many exciting events lined up for the whole family to participate and enjoy at a price of $20 or less per individual. What started in 2006 as a local level celebration of modern architecture in this desert area has today become a one of its own kind national festival celebrated with great fervor and fanfare.
People flock in to Palm Springs from all parts of the country every year in February to make merry in events that are organized during the Modernism Week. Tickets to these events sell fast and you are well advised to choose the events you want to attend and book your tickets in advance so that you do not face disappointment when you reach Palm Springs. This is because of the growing popularity of the events and tours organized here, tickets to which sell out within a few days after they are announced.
One thing that makes Modernism Week exciting and interesting is that it keeps adding new programs and events to its already long list of events taking place every year. The first offerings to the public will of course be the much awaited and alluring wine tastings and the walking tours. People enjoyed the guided tour of Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage and they were also thrilled to get a glimpse of the homes of the celebrities from a close quarter. The day concluded with a grand opening party at the night in which people danced to the tunes of live music and enjoyed cocktails. Of course this party was restricted to those over the age of 21.
One of the attractions during this year’s Modernism Week in Palm Springs would be the opportunity to look at Aluminaire House, first all metal home of the country that has been especially shifted to the desert area from New York city. In all probability, this famed structure would make Palm Springs its permanent home. It will not be only fun and enjoyment for the participating crowds during this 10 day long extravaganza as it will also be an excellent business opportunity for early 85 companies that will be putting up stalls to sell their products. These include national and international level dealers of furniture, home décor, music, and fine arts.
