Valentine’s Evening of Classical Music with Fortepiano & Violin

Event Description:

Co-presented with Desert Baroque's Bye Bye Baroque Festival, this concert features mid 18th century music for violin and fortepiano performed on period instruments.

Andrew McIntosh, an LA-based violinist and composer, has appeared as a soloist at the San Francisco Symphony's SoundBox series, REDCAT in Los Angeles, Miller Theatre in New York, and festivals throughout Europe. He is a member of the Formalist Quartet, the new music ensemble Wild Up and performs with period instrument ensembles Bach Collegium San Diego, Musica Angelica, and Tesserae. McIntosh has been commissioned by the LA Phil, The Industry Opera Company, Calder Quartet, and Los Angeles Percussion Quartet. He is on the faculty of CalArts.

Steven Vanhauwaert, a native of Belgium, was hailed by the Los Angeles Times’ Mark Swed for his “impressive clarity, sense of structure and monster technique.” Since then, Vanhauwaert has appeared in solo recitals at the world’s leading venues, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Segerstrom Hall, REDCAT, Bovard Auditorium, the Concertgebouw, the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, Bulgaria Hall, and the Shanghai City Theatre. Modernism Week’s signature February festival will take place February 14-24, 2019, highlighting midcentury modern architecture, art, interior and landscape design, and vintage culture in the Palm Springs area of Southern California.

 For the fourteenth year, the annual 11-day festival will feature a wide array of events including the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale, tours of iconic homes in more than 30 neighborhoods, and the popular Signature Home Tour on both weekends. Also offered are architectural walking, biking and double-decker bus tours, tours of the historic Annenberg Estate at Sunnylands, a classic car show, garden tours, nightly parties, and a special series of compelling and informative talks. All events are open to the public and tickets are available at modernismweek.com.  Some events sell out quickly.   A portion of ticket proceeds benefit Modernism Week (a non-profit organization) and other local preservation, neighborhood and community groups.
